Omotenashi is the concept used by Ken and Yoko Matsuzaki for explaining the reasons to create a scholarship at Curaumilla Arts Center on their behalf. It refers to the selfless and warm idea to receiving guests, “treat as was treated”. It is to achieve and understand intimate environment of trust, gratitude and respect between those sharing experience and time together. Mr. and Mrs. Matsuzaki established this award to help ceramists from Japan, United States and Chile based on an omotenashi approach for artists international exchange. At Curaumilla Arts Center we were honored to receive their scholarship and we will take it as a legacy, a legacy that will build a bridge in between our cultures.
